Dumb question! But, JUST FOR THE RECORD... how much effort do we have to put into, say, staying alive after a limb removal?

Like obviously that's something really easy to die from IRL. It seems to do it effectively, making a deal with Axum for medical supplies would probably be necessary. Maybe some sort of access to fire to burn the wound shut too? But can we also handwave it with "my character ties a rope around their arm to stop the bleeding because they're THAT TOUGH and also gonna wallow in pain forever, ow."?
